To Kill a Mockingbird Acting Styles

Gregory Peck played Atticus Finch in the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. Gregory Peck was a method actor as he studied method acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse acting school.
After watching To Kill a Mockingbird, I was looking for examples of Gregory Peck’s acting style. I found him to be very natural, like he was not acting at all which is a trait of method acting. When he spoke, I wanted to hear every word he was saying. His southern accent was also very realistic. He spoke with an accent but spoke more proper than some of the people in the town such as the farm people. Gregory Peck uses the Method in all of his films

Robert Duvall played Boo Radley in the movie. Robert Duvall is a well known method actor as his name was mentioned in our course book as a well known method actor. He did not have a big part in the film but he played the character of Boo Radley as a disturbed young man very well. I was very surprised to learn that that the character of Boo Radley was played by Robert Duvall until I did the research on this film. I thought his big film debut was in “The Godfather” but I was very wrong.

The third actor I chose to write about is Brock Peters. I picked Brock Peters because he actually had one of the few parts where the character showed a lot of emotion in the movie. Brock Peters plays the black man who was accused of raping the white girl. When Brock Peters is being questioned on the witness stand, he does a great job of showing emotion. I believe he is also a method actor and did a great job showing emotion in the movie.

I chose Gregory Peck to focus on for acting style. Gregory Peck lived in La Jolla, CA. He was attending the University of Berkley but then moved to New York to study method acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse acting school. In the movie I chose to write about, when you read the three acting styles, Stylized, natural and method, it is hard to distinguish these acting styles as it seems possible that an actor can be considered any one of the styles. When I read what each style meant, it was easier to figure out what acting style each actor uses. I thought Gregory Peck’s acting was very natural but he is a method actor. Gregory Peck did not have many very emotional reactions in the movie but I admired his character’s values and beliefs. I believe the courtroom scenes are some of his best scenes when he is cross examining the accuser, Mayella and the black man, Tom Robinson. His interactions with the children when he is teaching them a lesson was very natural and seemed effortless for him. I have seen a few other movies with Gregory Peck and I believe he is using the method in all his movies. Most of his movies are very old and in his day, actors who were in a lot of movies were usually contracted by the studio to act in several movies. They tended to put the actors in similar types of movies. This was true for Gregory Peck. He often played the charismatic male lead in his movies.

Sound in film reposted

Three of the main sounds in a movie are sound effects, dialogue, and music.
Sound effects are the sounds coming from things that may be happening in a movie such as a bomb exploding, water pouring, and rain. This would be any noise that movie makers want us, the audience, to hear other than spoken words. Sounds effects are often made from something other than the actual noise that is happening. Sound effects people often use unusual things to get a particular sound from.
One example in our course material was the sound dog food being sucked out of a can to get the sounds of the T-1000 robot from a Terminator movie. I thought that was very creative.
Music in a movie, I believe, is very important to a movie. It can be music especially written for a particular movie or a song that was already written but makes sense for the movie. I picked the movie To Kill a Mockingbird to write about for the assignment so I listened to the score that was written for this movie. The music throughout the movie is only music with no singing. It is very beautiful music written by Elmer Bernstein. It was actually very soothing music to listen to which surprised me because I am not a big fan of music without singing included.
Dialogue is the spoken words or sounds by the characters in a movie. The characters can be other than humans such as robots, animals, etc. One example is one of my favorite movies that I wrote about last week, Babe. The animals all talk in the movie and the way they matched their mouths moving to the words they were speaking was very realistic.
My chosen movie, To Kill a Mockingbird, is a courtroom drama. The movie is also very old. There is no aspecial effects or strange noises in this movie. The movie is mainly dialogue. The music from the movie is classical music with no singing.
I noticed that throughout the movie, the musical score was written specifically for the movie. In certain parts, for example, was when the children were walking home from trick or treating, They were attacked by a man and the music got more intense when the attack got more intense. As the scene got more intense and the music got more intense, it made me feel more tense and worry more for the children. The music definitely made the mood change for me while I was watching that scene.
Since this movie is a courtroom drama, the sound effects are true to life and realistic. When Atticus sets his glass down in the court room, it is very realistic. When the judge hits his gavel, it caused some people to jump including me. The story of this movie is mainly very interesting and still relevant today which is why I like this move so much and chose to write about it. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of special effects to speak of. I did not notice the musical score when I watched this movie many years ago. This time when I paid specific attention to it, it was interesting to see and hear how the music affected how we watch and react to the movie.

To Kill A Mockingbird

The movie, To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite all time movies. I did not know it is one of the AFI’s top ten movies. I read the book in high school and watched the movie some time after that. I can not recall when I did see it but it was some time ago. I really enjoyed watching it again. I have always been interested in the legal field and did become a Paralegal over thirty years ago. I have only recently not been a practicing paralegal except for personal family and friends since I moved to a small town in California where there are not a lot of paralegal job openings here. That is why I am now going for my BA in marketing.

The movie is filmed in low-key lighting which helps to make the scenes in the movie more intense and makes the scenes more serious. I noticed a lot of shadows in a lot of the scenes which I had not noticed before taking this class and learning about what goes in to making a movie.

In the scene where Scout meets Boo Radley, Boo is standing behind the door and he is in a dark shadow. When the door is closed and Scout sees him, the lighting softens up and gets lighter. Scout smiles at Boo and he smiles back. This made the mood seem lighter and Boo was not so scary looking any longer.

I feel that the movie was a head of its time as the subject was a very serious subject where a black man is accused of raping a while female. During the era where blacks had recently been freed, many people still had the mindset that black people were low class citizens and the word of a white woman would be taken a true over a black man’s word even if the evidence pointed to the opposite.
